The CSAC plans to hold their first annual conformation show and BST testing in the summer of 2005

BST


 

 

Requirements:

1)Dog must be 18 months of age,

2)Hips certified, OFA (prelimbs excepted), PennHip(with no djd), OVC , no others excepted.

3)Rated under at least 2 different FCI Judges with no less the very good.

4) A HIC (herding instinct tested)

 

All dogs must be on lead with a flat collar and dog that appears out of control will be excused.


 

The CSAC-BST is to help better the breeds over quality and keep the true character of the breed intact and strong, weak nerved dogs will not be excepted nor tolerated.

 

    The ability of the dog to distinguish threatening situations and from non-threatening situations. The willingness for the dog to trust their owner's judgment.The willingness of the dog to protect himself and his owner. The confidence level of the dog in unusual situations. The ability of the dog to interact with the world in a safe but stable manner.


 

Obedience Evaluation

 

 

AfAfter your dog passes the Obedience test, then it can proceed to the second part of the test which is the following

Exercise 1-

The dog starts the obedience exercises from a sitting positions at his owners side, Extra points for eye contact. He must heel with a loose lead down the path and do a right turn at the first pylon. Continue on to the next pillion and do a left turn, take 10paces and stop. Your dog should stop with you and automatically sit. Extra points for eye contact.

 

Then continue on then do a figure 8 through the next set of two pylons. After the figure 8 return back to the start and down your dog. Leave your dog and go behind the obstacle provided and remain there for 3minutes out of sight.

 

After 3minutes return to your dogs side and continue heeling on the path again .

 

Now continue on the path for the character evaluation.

 

 


Character evaluation

 

Exercise 1-
A. Dog and handler walk along path casually. Stranger approaches handler and shakes his hand and engages in brief conversation. Stranger leaves.

 

Exercise  2-
Dog and handler continue to walk casually along path. Helper lightly tosses a milk jug filled with rocks about 10 feet in front of handler and dog. Dog must not show fear or aggression. He can become alert but must not try to run or move behind owner.

 

Exercise 3-
Dog and handler continue to walk along path. At the distance of 20 feet behind the team the helper will fire a cap gun or starter pistol. Dog can become alert and curious but must not show flight or the desire to rush ahead of owner.

 

 Exercise 4-

Dog and handler approach helper holding a folded umbrella. When team is about 5-6 feet away, helper opens umbrella. Dog may display a startled reaction but must recover immediately without any excessive display of aggression or flight behaviors.

 

 Exercise 5-

 

Dog and handler continue along

path. The footing will change and dog and handler are required to walk on top of a piece of plastic tarp. Dog must trust owners judgment and quickly recover from any initial fear the dog displayed.

 

 Exercise 6-

 

A.    Dog and handler continue along path, stopping at a designated marker. At a distance of 40 feet ahead, helper crosses path wearing a raincoat and hood.

B.     Helper proceeds 15 feet toward the dog and handler, approaching in a suspicious manner

C.     Helper proceeds another 10 feet towards the dog, this time in a very aggressive threatening manner. The dog must show interest in the helper, bark, go out to end of lead in front ,show courage. He must not ever back up, cower, try to run or any other sign of flight and fear.

 


Dog must not show any aggression for situation A. Dog must show an alert posture for situation B.  Dog must show willingness to protect in situation C. Any sign of coward ness will result in failure.
